Humankind strives from adversity. We all might tell ourselves sometimes that we want a lifestyle devoid of any challenges, but most of us would truly be bored to death with such a life. Could you imagine sitting back on the couch day in and day out without anything to motivate you? Without setting any goals or accepting challenges that can improve yourself or your lot in life? It might sound fun for a week or so, but eventually dissatisfaction will set in.
From the beginning of time man has endured great challenges and accomplished amazing achievements in an effort to improve their own lives as well as the world at large. I dare say setting goal and accepting challenges is hardwired into us, and before you dismiss this seemingly crazy statement ask yourself why it is people so often want what they cannot have?
Why does a man often have eyes for a woman that has no interest in his flirtation or advancements, rather than a woman that throws herself at his feet (or vice versa)? Wouldn't it be easier to show your affection to a willing participant rather than chase after the seemingly unachievable?
Of course it would, but in the dating world the "thrill of the chase" often rules out over logic. Our first instinct generally tells us that any member of the opposite sex that throws themselves at our feet is just too "easy," and easily gained things are often unsatisfying in the end. Many of us don't want to settle for what's easily obtained and right in front of our face – we would rather strive for the barely reachable prize.
The dating example above is just one of many that I could have used to get my point across. Setting goals and accepting challenges keeps us motivated and in a perpetual state of self-improvement and fulfillment – it's a part of human nature itself.
Unfortunately some of us lose that zest for life and the challenges it brings during the daily grind. We become so caught up in making a living and supporting ourselves and/or our family that we forget what it feels like to reach for the stars by accepting challenges and achieving personal goals.
Try not to let that happen to you. Embrace life and the challenges it can present, and be sure to set personal goals for yourself each and every day. While it's all too easy to get lost in the drudgery of the job and daily life, it doesn't have to be that way. Goals can be inserted into even the busiest of schedules, particularly if you broaden your mind and accept goals that mesh with your regimen rather than place further demands upon it.
