The Importance of Setting Goals

How Important Is Setting Goals? Consider This…

In today's "hustle and bustle" society, too many people are struggling just to get by and make ends meet. In the back of their minds they know what they want (job promotions, improved personal relationships, etc.) for their future, but such personal desires fall to the wayside as they plod through the daily grind.

Setting goals for yourself is essential because you are in effect forcing yourself to pursue your dreams, provided you can keep yourself motivated. By setting goals for yourself, you have taken your broad dreams and desires and laid down a solid plan of action to help you achieve that step. Elsewhere in this course we will discuss why laying down written goals and objectives is the best way to devise a series of steps (or mini-goals) that will ultimately lead towards achieving your end goals.

By setting goals for yourself you can:

  • Achieve more in your lifetime, whether your desires relate to finances, health or any other subject.
  • Keep your mind and body sharper. Monotony brings about stagnation, thereby lulling us into a daily regimen rather than a focused plan for improvement.
  • Improve your self-confidence and motivation. When you set goals for yourself and succeed in accomplishing them, you feel good about yourself and become more enthused to take your goals to the next level.
  • Inspire others to excel or perform better (which is important for managers!). Individuals who reflect confidence and accomplishment inspire most people, and this inspiration leads them to follow your example.
  • Help reduce the stress in your life. When life tosses a wrench in your plans, your positive mindset will help you understand that such hurdles are temporary in nature. Plus you will know how to set the necessary goals to overcome the obstacle.

Setting goals is essential for all aspects of life. Running a business, supervising employees, losing weight, earning more money, training a pet, maintaining your home… no matter what you do (or wish to do), setting goals helps ensure you will excel, rather than just scrape by.
